Mullein Extract in the BreatheEasex formula

What mullein is

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a tall biennial plant with soft, felted leaves and a distinctive flower spike. It grows readily on disturbed ground across Europe and North America, which is part of why its use became so widespread.

Traditional usage context

Mullein leaf and flower have been used in traditional respiratory preparations for centuries, typically as an infusion. It appears in European, North American and Native American traditional practice, which is an unusually broad footprint.

That breadth of traditional use is genuinely notable. It is also not the same thing as clinical evidence, and we would not present it as such.

What the research covers

The modern research literature on mullein is thin compared with its traditional reputation. There is preliminary laboratory work, but well-conducted human trials on respiratory outcomes are not something we can point you to.

We would rather say that plainly than dress up traditional use as proven science.

Why it appears in the BreatheEasex formula

It leads the four-botanical list shown on the product graphic, alongside lobelia, peppermint oil and ginger extract. Note that this ingredient does not appear on the official site’s seven-ingredient list.

Responsible expectations

Traditional respiratory comfort as part of a wellness routine. Mullein is not a treatment for asthma, COPD or any respiratory condition, and it does not replace an inhaler or prescribed medication.

  • Generally regarded as gentle and well tolerated at traditional amounts.
  • Preparations made from the whole plant are usually filtered, as the fine hairs on the leaves can irritate the throat.
  • Speak to your doctor first if you are pregnant, nursing or taking medication.
